Famous “Big Red One” To Hold 2009 Reunion In Dearborn, Michigan
Blue Bell, PA – Veterans of the Army’s renowned 1st Infantry Division,
the Big Red One, will hold their 91st Annual Reunion in Dearborn,
Michigan from August 5-9, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency Dearborn. The
reunion is conducted by the Big Red One veterans’ organization, the
Society of the First Infantry Division located in Blue Bell, PA.
The 1st Infantry Division is the Army’s oldest and arguably
most famous division. It served with great distinction in World War I,
World War II, Vietnam and the Gulf War as well as in Germany and the
U.S. during the Cold War. Its Combat Aviation Brigade is now in Iraq
participating in Operation Iraqi Freedom where it will soon be joined
by the Big Red One’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team. The Division’s 3rd
Brigade Combat Team is deployed to Afghanistan in Operation Enduring
Freedom. The 1st Brigade of the 1st Infantry Division continues to
train thousands of Military Transition Team members at Ft. Riley,
Kansas and deploy them to Iraq and Afghanistan.
Over 1000 Big Red One veterans and their guests attended the 90th
Annual Reunion recently held in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The
Commanding General of the Division and a solid contingent of young
soldiers serving in the Division and Big Red One veterans from Iraq
added a fresh, new dimension to the reunion.
Everyone who ever served in the First Infantry Division or any unit attached to it is cordially invited to attend the reunion.
